Sucht man nach LGBT-Jugendliteratur, stößt man schnell auf David Levithan. Der Autor erarbeitete sich eine beachtliche Reputation, weil Diversität in seinen Büchern eine wichtige Rolle spielt. Er begann seine Karriere als Lektor; sein erster Roman „Boy Meets Boy“ stellte sein Traum-Manuskript dar: eine Geschichte über homosexuelle Teenager fern jeglicher Klischees und Stereotypen. Offenbar war er nicht der einzige, der sich das wünschte, denn das Buch wurde ein Erfolg. Sein vermutlich bekanntestes Buch ist jedoch „Every Day“, in dem er untersucht, wie eine Existenz ohne Label wie Gender, Sexualität und Rasse, die Menschen zur Kategorisierung verwenden, aussähe. Außerdem wollte er herausfinden, ob es möglich wäre, eine Person zu lieben, die sich jeden Tag verändert. Der 2012 erschienene Roman erfuhr einen unfassbaren Hype, der auch an mir nicht vorbeiging. Aber da ich dazu neige, die Letzte zu sein, die ein gehyptes Buch liest, holte ich „Every Day“ erst 2018 von meinem SuB.Stell dir vor, du müsstest jeden Tag aufs Neue herausfinden, wer du bist. Stell dir vor, du hättest keinen eigenen Körper, kein eigenes Leben, keinen Anker. Nur deine Identität, dein abstraktes, formloses, heimatloses Ich, das Tag für Tag in der Existenz eines anderen Menschen erwacht. Was würdest du tun? Würdest du das Abenteuer suchen, Grenzen überschreiten? Würdest du verantwortungsvoll mit dem Leben umgehen, das dir anvertraut wurde? Was würdest du vermissen? Dein Gesicht im Spiegel? Familie, Freunde, Routine? Oder die Hoffnung auf die große Liebe?Seit A denken kann, bedeutete Leben, in eine andere Person hineinzuschlüpfen. So war es immer. Doch Rhiannon änderte alles.Ich erinnere mich gern an die Lektüre von „Every Day“. Ich begann das Buch auf meinem Weg zur Arbeit. Es war ein schöner Tag, ich hatte im Bus einen Fensterplatz und Sonnenstrahlen tanzten über die Seiten. Ich konnte fühlen, wie ich eingesaugt wurde, innerhalb kürzester Zeit eine Verbindung aufbaute und sich ein glückliches Lächeln auf mein Gesicht stahl. Ich lächelte während des gesamten ersten Kapitels. David Levithan benötigte nicht einmal 30 Seiten, um mich abzuholen. Zwar hielt diese magische Verbundenheit nicht die gesamte Lektüre über an, aber es war dennoch ein besonderes Leseerlebnis. Die Geschichte startet an Tag 5994 von A’s Leben. A ist 16 Jahre alt und… ja, was eigentlich? Pures Bewusstsein. Eine Lebensform ohne physische Präsenz, eine reisende Seele, ein Parasit. A besitzt keinen Körper und demzufolge weder Geschlecht noch Gender oder Rasse. Stattdessen erwacht er/sie unfreiwillig jeden Tag im Körper einer anderen Person im selben Alter und übernimmt diesen. Deshalb war es unmöglich, A außerhalb der Wirte zu visualisieren. Trotzdem entwickelte ich eine unverwechselbare Vorstellung der Persönlichkeit, die mir in Ich-Perspektive Einblicke in ihre Existenz gewährte. Levithan individualisierte A’s Stimme gewissenhaft und beweist, dass ein Charakter nicht auf Äußerlichkeiten angewiesen ist, um überzeugend und glaubhaft zu sein. Es wundert mich nicht, dass „Every Day“ in der LGBT-Community als ikonisch gilt, denn die Selbstverständlichkeit, mit der der Autor sexuelle Identität behandelt, beeindruckte mich und regte mich zum Nachdenken an. Er lehrte mich, dass auch ich so daran gewöhnt bin, zu kategorisieren, dass ich A grundlos als männlich einstufte. Vielleicht lag es daran, dass A das erste Kapitel im Körper von Justin erlebt und meine Leseerfahrung dadurch prägte. Erst scheint sich Tag 5994 für A durchschnittlich zu gestalten. Obwohl seine/ihre Existenz haarsträubend wirkt, hat er/sie diese akzeptiert, wie sie ist. Er/Sie ist es gewohnt, sich schnell in einem neuen Körper zurechtzufinden, die Erwartungshaltung des Umfelds zu erfüllen und sich respektvoll zu verhalten. Es gefiel mir, dass sich A der Verantwortung, die mit der Inbesitznahme einhergeht, bewusst ist. Normalerweise bemüht sich A, den Wirt so gut wie möglich zu verkörpern, doch als ihm/ihr Justins Freundin Rhiannon begegnet, ist dieser Vorsatz schnell vergessen. Rhiannon ändert für A alles, weil er/sie sich in sie verliebt. Durch diese Gefühle offenbart sich die erschütternde Tragik in A’s Dasein. Er/Sie kann keine Beziehungen aufbauen, weil diese keinen Bestand haben können. Ihm/Ihr fehlt ein entscheidendes Stück der Identitätsbildung und Erfahrungen, die für Menschen sonst normal sind, erlebt er/sie nur aus zweiter Hand. Obwohl A’s Bekanntschaft mit tausenden komprimierten Leben unvergleichlich aufregend ist, sehnt er/sie sich nach Konstanz – in Person von Rhiannon. Leider ist das der Grund, warum mich „Every Day“ nicht dauerhaft zu fesseln vermochte. A versucht, Rhiannon in unterschiedlichen Körpern von sich überzeugen. Diese Tage ähneln sich sehr. Ich fand diese Kapitel daher nicht abwechslungsreich genug und etwas schnulzig. Aber gut, im Kern ist das Buch trotz der spektakulären Umstände eine Liebesgeschichte, was will man da erwarten?„Every Day“ ist ein Buch simpler Poetik, das zahlreiche philosophische Lebensweisheiten enthält, mit denen sich die meisten Leser_innen sicher identifizieren können. David Levithan vermittelt die unmissverständliche Botschaft, dass sich das Herz nicht für oberflächliche Eigenschaften interessiert. Liebe ist blind. Meiner Ansicht nach verfügt dieser Roman allerdings über eine zusätzliche Metaebene. Ich sehe in „Every Day“, in A’s wechselhafter Existenz, auch eine Metapher für die Jugend selbst. Wenn man jung ist, probiert man viele verschiedene Identitäten aus, möchte alles auf einmal und doch wieder ganz anders sein, fühlt sich manchmal allein, losgelöst und unsichtbar. A ist eine konzentrierte Personifizierung dieses Lebensabschnitts. Ich hoffe, dass er/sie irgendwann in sich selbst ankommt. Deshalb freue ich mich mehr auf das Sequel „Someday“, als auf „Another Day“, das Rhiannons Perspektive beleuchtet, denn ich wünsche A vor allem eines: eine Heimat.
Die Idee an sich ist toll und ich war von Anfang an in der Geschichte drinnen. Ich fand es super entspannend und wollte sehen in welchem Körper A am nächsten Morgen steckt und was mit Rhiannon passiert. Ich habe das Buch auf Englisch gelesen und fand das sehr einfach. Es ist nicht wirklich philosophisch oder poetisch, jedoch hat es in manchen Stellen tieferen Elemente, die einem zum Nachdenken bringen. Es ist allgemein sehr angenehm zum Lesen (perfekt für Jugendliche). Ich gebe das Buch keine 5 Sterne weil das Ende mir überhaupt nicht gefallen hat. Die Geschichte ist wirklich entspannend aber das Ende war so kurz, so unerwartet und so sinnlos, dass ich sehr enttäuscht und sogar ein bischen sauer war. Trotzdem würde ich das Buch empfehlen. Das lesen hat auf jeden Fall Spass gemacht und Gefühle in mir geweckt.
The book “everydayâ€, written by David Levithan, is published in 2015. The novel is about a personality named A. He/she wakes up in another body everyday. For A it’s normal and he/she can live with this, till he /she meets Rhiannon. A have never told a person that he/she wakes up in another body everyday, but with Rhiannon it is different. A tries to meet Ryan and as often as he /she can, but it’s riscant, because the person he/ she is in can remember a few things. In my opinion it’s very interesting to see the really different personalities. For example when A was in the body of a Transgender or in the body of a fat person. It’s also a good love story, because A and Rhiannon love each other but A can’t stay and for Rhiannon it’s hard to accept that A is the same person in other bodies. So the story doesn’t get boring.In my point of view the ending comes a bit too fast and there are remaining too much unanswered questions. Maybe this questions will be answered in the next book “anotherdayâ€.The intention of the author is that he wants to show the difference between people and there living conditions.I would recommend this book when you like to read love stories and something like this.Thekla, student, Koblenz
Super interessantes Buch, mal etwas anderes. Wobei ich sagen muss, dass manche Stellen nicht nach meinem Geschmack geschrieben sind und manchmal bestimmte Sachen oder Gefühle aus dem nichts im Buch auftauchen, aber es ist immerhin ein Jugendbuch und das ist zu erwarten. Trotzdem sehr interessante Geschichte! Empfehlenswert!!
Fortunately I read this book before I read "Will Grayson, Will Grayson" which David Levithan wrote together with John Green (who I quite like as an author) and that I cannot recommend. Contrary to "Will Grayson" this book is really fascinating to read and kept me guessing how it would end.What would you do if you woke up in a different body (even with a different gender) every morning but then fell in love with a girl who already had a boyfriend?This is the situation the main character finds himself in, and it becomes more and more a problem really difficult to solve through the course of the book.Though there is kind of a solution at the end, I'm not really sure this is really the end of the story. I wouldn't be surprised if there would be a sequel sometime in the future - there already is a (very short) "prequel".Definitely a good book!
